Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession focused on helping children gain independence in childhood occupations, such as play, activities of daily living, motor tasks, attention and focus, executive functioning tasks and more.
The intensive therapy model maximizes the number of therapy sessions in a short amount of time. Studies have shown that the same amount of progress can be made in 3 weeks that typically takes 6 months of weekly therapy sessions. Typical intensives include one to two 60 minute therapy sessions 5 days a week for 1-3 weeks but there is variability in this model and Nourish Life Kids can customize each intensive to the needs of your child and your goals. Multiple therapy modalities (including DMI, MRNI, and TMR techniques) and progressive and repetitive gross motor exercises are used to help children make fast gains towards the next developmental skill. The goal of an intensive is to stimulate neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and create new neuronal pathways, so that the brain can work more efficiently to control muscles, posture and movement. Intensives are appropriate for children of almost any age and skill level.
DMI stands for Dynamic Movement Intervention. It is a treatment approach developed to treat children with motor delays. It uses elicits automatic postural responses and promotes progress towards developmental milestones. The goal of DMI is to provoke a specified active motor response from the child in response to defined dynamic exercises given by the therapist. This comprehensive intervention incorporates current research on neurorehabilitation, technologies, and methodologies and stimulates neuroplasticity to facilitate new neuronal connections and development of motor milestones. It is highly effective for improving motor coordination, postural control, proximal stability and sensory processing.
I have experience working with children from birth to adulthood. DMI specifically can be done at any age but is most effective when started early in life. However, changes in the brain can be made throughout the lifespan thanks to neuroplasticity.
I am out of network for all insurance companies, but do accept Katie Beckett Medicaid. Most intensives are paid for out of pocket. I know the cost of raising a child with special needs can be a challenge. As a result, my prices for weekly sessions and intensives considers that as I want all kids and families to have access to this effective model of therapy. Contact me for pricing and details.
